Animals Not to be At Large inside the Town Limits

11/10/2025

The Town of Porter would like to kindly remind our friends and neighbors that all pets must be kept on a leash or safely contained while inside town limits. Loose or roaming animals can pose safety concerns for both people and pets. According to the ordinance, “animals means any horse, mule, donkey, pony, cow, sheep, goat, hog, pig, dog, cat, rabbit, chicken, goose, duck, turkey, or other animal or fowl”.

It is also required that all dogs six (6) months and older be licensed with the Town — it’s quick, easy, and helps us reunite lost pets with their owners.

Starting immediately, if a pet is found running loose, the owner will receive a courtesy letter as a reminder. If the same pet is found loose again, a fine will be issued in accordance with town ordinance.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our town safe and neighborly!
